Defense Secretary Considers Cut on Military Health and Retirement Care

Defense Sec considers cut on military health and retirement careLeon Panetta, United States Defense Secretary, is thinking of slashing retirement and health benefits in relation to other procedures. This is because of the minimizing efforts regarding the Pentagon’s budget amounting to $450 billion in a decade.

Based on the report in New York Times last Sunday, Panetta is also taking into account cutting budget on troop levels and weapon purchases.

He said that these probable cuts were due to the terrific pressure he is having while he ponders on the cuts on the department’s almost $700 billion yearly budget, expenses which has developed noticeably from the time when the 9/11 attacks took place.

Panetta’s remarks arrive three weeks prior to a bipartisan board of legislators attains a cut-off date to cut $1.2 trillion in national expenses in the next 10 years. Without conformity, the Defense Department confronts regular cuts of $500 billion added over the next decade.

In a statement given to Times, Panetta said, “We’re going from three cops to two cops in a pretty rough neighborhood.”

Furthermore, he stated, “We’re going to be developing a smaller, lighter, more agile, flexible joint force that has to conduct a full range of military activities that are necessary to defend our national interests. So even though they’re going to be smaller and lighter, we’ve got to make sure they always maintain a technological edge.”

At present, the military insurance program Tricare assures retirees lifelong care and gives $460 annually for coverage, even at its slight increase in October.

No real surprise here-this from an administration that floated the idea of making vets pay for combat wounds out of PRIVATE insurance.

Look at the VA hospitals, they are staffed by residents that haven’t a clue on what they are doing-and their decisions are rubber-stamped by the attending. Many VA employees (most of them administrative) sit on their cans all day bitching about their “crappy” pay-and do little else. Ask many in the medical field (Nursing Aides, RN’s and LPN’s) to assist you-and they tell you “but you aren’t MY patient)

VA, DoD, and other agencies need to do one helluva housecleaning, get rid of the dead wood-and see just how much they save!
