United States representative, 77-year old Leonard Boswell said that he has not given thought about retiring considering his very long experience both in military and politics. He is about to confront Rep. Tom Latham in the redrawn third Congressional District, next year.
Boswell said, “I’m feeling good and I’m very concerned about what’s going on in our country and the world if you will. Somebody like me, I’ve never been more ready to participate in this.” Boswell’s family is supportive of his decision to stay in politics.
“I talked to my family about this,” stated Boswell, “They said `Dad and Granddad, after we understand how you look at this, do it’ and we’re doing it.”
The representative is apprehensive regarding the path that the state is taking and that his experience in politics and military is a firm position to serve and help his people.
He was elected in 1996 and is serving the Congress for twelve years, and the army for twenty years.
Latham’s spokesman, on the other hand, said that Latham isn’t focused for next year’s election. “Congressman Latham is busy working on policy and will worry about politics next year,” said James Cartensen.
On the other hand, Boswell also stated, “I think they are disturbed and I think they see a threat to the American dream. The average working class, they’re coming out of college right now, they’ve got debt, they want to get a job and they can’t get a job.”
